By following these simple steps, you can safely enjoy the benefits of burning candles with crystals and flowers. Remember to always take precautions when burning candles and never leave a burning candle unattended.
Choose a Safe Location
The first step is to choose a safe location for your candle burning ritual. It's important to choose a location that is free of flammable objects and has good ventilation.
Avoid Flammable Objects
Avoid placing candles near curtains, papers, or any other flammable objects. Also, make sure that the candle is not placed near an open window where it could be exposed to drafts.
Prepare Your Crystals and Flowers
Before lighting your candle, move any loose flowers away from the flame. Larger flowers and crystals may be removed and laid next to the candle.
Trim the Wick
There is no need to trim the wick before burning if you are leaving your crystals intact. The larger wick is needed to help the wax melt around the crystals for the first burn. After the crystals have sunken into the wax, you should keep the wick trimmed to 1/4 inch. If your candle isn't in a drafty room while burning and you find that the flame is dancing, you'll need trim the wick to keep the flame under control and to avoid soot from accumulating around the jar.
Light Your Candle
Use a long lighter or matches to light the candle. Make sure that the wick is centered and not touching any of the crystals or flowers. To avoid candle “tunneling” always burn candles until the wax pools to the edge of the glass, this is especially important for the first burn.
Monitor Your Candle
While your candle is burning, it's important to monitor it to ensure that it's burning safely. Keep an eye on the flame and make sure that it's not too high or too low. If the flame becomes too high, it could ignite nearby objects, so it's important to keep the candle away from anything that could catch fire. It is not recommended to burn candles for more than 4 hours at a time.
Extinguish Your Candle
When it's time to extinguish your candle, use a candle snuffer or a metal lid to cover the candle and smother the flame. Never blow out a candle, as this can send hot wax and embers flying. Wait until the wax has cooled before removing the crystals and flowers.
Remember to always take precautions when burning candles and never leave a burning candle unattended.
